Memorial Day Weekend Family Vacation Camp @ Wente Scout Reservation
Family Vacation Camp at Wente Scout Reservation offers numerous fun and exciting activities for people of all ages. Archery and BB gun are great fun for everyone, and the rifle and shotgun ranges offer a rousing challenge for older youth and adult campers. The feature 80-acre lake provides a great place to lie in the sun or swim on a warm afternoon. There are plenty of shallow areas for the little ones and areas for the experienced swimmer too! The lake also offers the opportunity to row a boat, paddle a canoe or kayak or paddleboard, or just lean back and enjoy the sun as a stiff breeze pushes you along in a sailboat. Bring your fishing gear to catch a mess of blue gill or large-mouth bass. Wente’s lake provides excellent fishing even for the smaller children, but don't forget to catch and release! You can enjoy the miles and miles of trails while riding one of our Western saddle horses. Stop by the Craft Porch where you can make something that will always remind you of the good times you had at wonderful Wente Scout Reservation Family Vacation Camp.
The WSR Trading Post offers a variety of ice cream, candy and other snack items as well as Wente Scout Reservation memorabilia and other camping supplies.
Like most national, state, or private campgrounds, you will be sleeping in tents. You have the option to use canvas Boy Scout tents or you can bring your own. Large groups of multiple families (43 or more people) who wish to camp together can be assigned a large site in advance. Otherwise all accommodations are selected as first come, first served upon your arrival at camp. Hot showers and restrooms are conveniently located nearby each of the major campground areas.
The soft Meadow open-camping area by the lake is normally available later in the Summer, in addition to the overflow meadow stretching out across Gilwell Field up along the ridgeline. Wente also has an RV campground with 7 sites that have electrical hookups, and water spigots nearby. There is an additional fee of $35 (for the whole weekend) to utilitize the RV hook-ups and parking area.
A great choice of two food plans is available. The first is to bring your own food and cooking gear to camp; perishables may be stored in the walk-in refrigerator room outside the kitchen. All other foods MUST be stored in your vehicles at night, so there are no problems with the abundant wildlife and other critters in the woods. The second choice is our camp meal plan prepared by an experienced kitchen staff and served in the camp dining hall. Eat like the Scouts do during Summer camp, with varied and nutritious meals available for a very reasonable fee! The Meal Plan begins with Saturday breakfast and ends with Sunday dinner. Friday evening Pizza & Salad Bar, and Monday Continental Breakfast & Fruit Bar are available for an additional fee of $10 each for any and all campers, to make the first and last day dining more convenient. Sunday evening there is an ice cream social open to everyone; a fun tradition of many years at Family Vacation Camp!
