The Scoutreach Division gives special leadership and emphasis to urban and rural Scouting programs. Scoutreach is BSA's commitment to making sure that all young people have an opportunity to join Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood, or ethnic background.
Since 1994 the San Francisco Bay Area Council, combined with strong support from the Elizabeth and Stephen Bechtel, Jr. Foundation, has delivered Scoutreach programs to our most needy youth via non-traditional methods in the urban and highly diverse areas of Oakland and San Francisco.
How our Scoutreach Program Works
The Scoutreach program was consolidated in 2002 into a single, focused division to allow staff members to focus exclusively on the different needs of youngsters in this program. Three full-time professionals and twenty part-time Scoutreach leaders staff the new Scoutreach Division. Our Scoutreach Director is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the program while two Scoutreach Program Coordinators maintain responsibility for recruiting, training, and supervising Scoutreach leaders in the delivery of program to more than 6,700 young people in units throughout San Francisco and Oakland.
The Scoutreach program has four main goals:
