The San Francisco Bay Area Council offers a variety of climbing programs for all ability levels. The programs range from climbing the Rock at the YLTC or going to a number of Bay Area outdoor locations.

The Rock at the YLTC

The Rock is a 32 ft natural looking rock with a number of different routes to climb. The routes vary in difficulty so everyone in your Unit can have fun no matter what their climbing experiance is.

Unit Climbs 
Scouting units may make reservations for climbs on The Rock. Please give at least one alternate choice of dates. Climb approvals are based on availability of instructors. Weekday climbs are available to begin at 6:30 or 7:00 p.m. Saturday climbs may begin at 9 a.m., noon, or 3:00 p.m.

Cost:
Scouting Groups:
$10 per person with a minimum of 6 climbers.
(Dens and Packs will also need to provide adults to belay for climbers. There is no cost for these adults and training will be provided)
Non Scouting Groups:
$15 per person with a minimum of 6 climbers.

Climbing Merit Badge Saturday
This full day activity provides the opportunity for a Scout to complete the Climbing Merit Badge from start to finish. The cost for the day is $30 and includes instruction, climbing, rappelling, and lunch.

The March 20th Climbing Merit Badge Saturday is now full. We will be hosting another date in May or June. Please watch this site for the date.

Outdoor Climbing

The outdoor climbing program is available for Troops, Varsity Teams, and Venture Crews. This program allows your Unit the opportunity to take advantage of the outstanding climbing the Bay Area has to offer.

Instructor Lead Climbs
An instructor lead climb. For $45 per person (minimum group size of 6) your Unit will be accompanied by an experianced instructor who can set up the ropes and get you on your way for a climb at a Bay Area outdoor location.

Equipment Rental
If your Unit has a qualified instructor you can rent the neccessary equipment (ropes, harnesses, helmets, hardware, etc.) at the YLTC for $120 for a weekend.
